Round Two Again Postponed At Capbreton
October 5, 2003 (Hossegor, France) The Quiksilver Pro France was again
postponed today, despite being on standby for most of it. Organizers were
hopeful the move to nearby Capbreton would result in round two heats of the
US$250,000 World Championship Tournament (WCT) unfolding, but competitors
ultimately deemed conditions less than ideal and opted to wait. The Evian
Airshow trials heat was run however, giving the hundreds of spectators
something to enjoy.

Punchy 4ft (1.3m) waves were on offer at Capbreton. Despite rain clouds
surrounding the venue, sunshine highlighted the surfing action.

The Evian Air Show has US$10,000 up for grabs, with the final already
consisting of the current ratings top four - Andy Irons (Haw), Kelly Slater
(USA), Taj Burrow (Aus) and Joel Parkinson (Aus). Today's trials heat
consisted of 10 hopefuls in an hour-long session, with the following eight
advancing through in this order: Cory Lopez (USA), Tim Curran (USA),
wildcard Dane Reynolds (USA), Damien Hobgood (USA), Michael Lowe (Aus),
Danilo Costa (Brz), Shea Lopez (USA), and wildcard Troy Brooks (Aus).

Lopez amazed everyone - including himself - with a huge frontside air 390
(since he rotated further than 360 degrees). He now leads the charge into
the Evian Airshow Final, which is scheduled to take place prior to the
Quiksilver Pro France final, sometime this coming week.

"It's cool to be here at Capbreton with all the people watching from the
seawall," said Lopez. "It was tough to find the air sections out there, but
Timmy and Dane got a couple of good ones and then I found that nice one. I
was pretty stoked on the air and surprised myself when I made it. I thought
I was going to eat it since it was pretty high. You don't make many like
that, so I'm really happy."

Another decision is expected tomorrow morning at 8:30am (local time) as to
the day's schedule.
